The second-hand marketplace Members Share Anger Over Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments without notifying every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Response
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, located in England, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Service Background
The service features exceeding 100 million users, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options following member complaints.
