The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
