Supporters Urge Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of Ariana Grande are calling for that a man who leaped a barricade and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account contains clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last December.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Fans Voice Worry Over Grande's Well-being
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented another response on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while others called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of fans had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the second of a two-film interpretation of the well-known theatrical show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected relationship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and received ten Academy Award nods, securing several for outstanding attire and production design.
