Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with results this poor.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
