New Year's Revelers Told to Wrap Up Warm with Snowfall Forecast Throughout the UK
Weather experts have indicated a frosty commencement to the new year, with snow anticipated over large parts of the UK. Celebrants are being urged to bundle up as near-freezing temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Plans Proceed Amid Forecasts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay events are set to take place, a contrast to last year's cancellation. This proceeds amid weather alerts for snow across northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve evening for those out celebrating, so extra layers will be necessary," said the weather service.
Displays Under Clear but Frosty Skies
Across the UK, the weather is set to be suited to fireworks celebrations, with dry conditions and clear skies. The mercury are forecast to be chilly, so warm wraps vital, said forecasters.
In more northern areas, skies will be more overcast, but this is not anticipated to hamper visibility for seeing fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Broad Weather Alerts for New Year's Day
Moving into Friday, weather warnings are in place for Northern Ireland and from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England.

- People have been urged to allow extra time for trips on the road.
- Hold-ups and call-offs are likely on public transport.
Temperatures Forecast to Drop Even More
As 2026 begins, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," said forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are forecast to fall even more as snow and gale-force winds are likely to batter the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is expected to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Public Health Warnings Issued
Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with the mercury expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency said this meant the weather was expected to trigger major effects across health and social care services. This encompasses a likely increase in the number of deaths among those with health conditions or those aged 65 or over.
The message for all is clear: to see the new year in security, dressing for the cold is completely essential.
