'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear after the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful shot from outside the box, and the defender immediately slammed home the loose ball before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory capped an incredible turnaround given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. Amid the delirium, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result secured a next round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's first-time shot from about way out going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the City players who praised the way his former team approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they are adept at control and neutralize a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he reunited with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a spell at League Two Salford, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without serious challenge. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that maturation for club and country, performing well for his national side, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including home and away fixtures against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his father, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to the weather of freezing cold. "It was a long trip and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I felt I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. Franco is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with fans on public transport after commuting at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
