Fox Sports Parts Ways with Mark Sanchez, Substitutes Him with Drew Brees
The network has ended its relationship with game analyst Mark Sanchez amidst his criminal charges, various sources confirmed on Friday.
"It is confirmed that Mark Sanchez is no longer working for Fox," a Fox spokesperson commented. "We will offer no further comment currently."
Assuming the analyst role will be another former NFL quarterback, Drew Brees, as per the report. He is expected to work alongside announcer Adam Amin and is signed to call games until at least 2026.
Background on the Sanchez Situation
Sanchez, 38 had been sidelined since he was injured in a stabbing and subsequently arrested following a fight in an alley in Indianapolis with a senior truck driver. He had traveled to call the 5 October game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders but was hospitalized and substituted that week by Brady Quinn.
He is facing a felony battery charge as well as multiple misdemeanors. The felony charge could result in of 1-6 years in prison, upon a guilty verdict, and he has entered a not guilty plea in Marion County, Indiana.
Brees' Professional Background
Brees, 46 retired from the NFL following the 2020 campaign and spent the 2021 season with the NBC network, serving as a game analyst for the Notre Dame football coverage and featured in Football Night in America.
Brees has done studio work with Fox and ESPN and served as an commentator on a Netflix sports event last Christmas.
He guided the Saints team to a Super Bowl victory in the 2009 NFL season and was a two-time awardee NFL offensive standout. He is second behind the legendary Brady in NFL history in yards thrown (80,358) and touchdown passes (571).
