Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer who crafted many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

The industry mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
