This year, the celebrated sci-fi anthology returned with several stories of grand sci-fi adventures taking place in the beloved world, while also revisiting several of the most intriguing storylines from the initial season.

This is why, an exceptional computer-generated episode instantly stood out, depicting the story of a impatient young Force-user who becomes blinded in a fight and must undergo a set of inner challenges to conquer the temptation of the Sith path.
This storyline takes inspiration from Japanese mythology, featuring the heroine journeying through a magical perspective of the reality as perceived through her inner energy, providing the short a breathtaking and original aesthetic.
Production Insights
Although the animation studio had previously contributed in a separate computer-generated show, the creative lead stated that zero the crew worked on both projects.
As I sought to aware of including multiple components from the extensive lore of the saga in a metaphorical way, we instead focused to attain an innovative approach worthy of the series,” he explained.
Artistic Influences
When asked about the impressive and lovely graphics, the creator explained that the main theme of the cinematic style was “to visualize the Force as an image.” Additionally, he wanted the imagery to be more than just a artistic element or elegance, but to function as a stage device that would bolster the narrative and effectively communicate the main character’s inner state.
Moreover, he decided to illustrate all fantastical occurrences by blending the narrative’s nature with the idea of cellular entities, displaying them as clusters of minute particles and inorganic matter”, encompassing the faint, vanishing imagery of a blind world.
Also, the team developed the approach of presenting these elements on screen as beautiful works of art instead of typical visual effects graphics. How the Force appears and the world viewed through it changes based on the main character’s emotional journey.
In depicting the diverse fantastical worlds that unfold throughout the story in this plot, and to capture the exceptional craftsmanship and splendor they contain, the crew found significant ideas from master paintings internationally.
Character Design
The characters in this story were inspired by traditional Japanese legends and mythology. Regarding the Sith, the artists set their sights on an ancient deity, a figure from Japanese mythology considered the origin of the trickster spirit that features in many stories.
Her nature fit perfectly with the purpose of the Sith in this tale. Expanding on this concept, the team chose to merge the customs and beings of the fictional universe with a Nippon “Amanosagume” design.
The art director built on the image of the “Oni”, the supernatural beings famous in local legends. In the finer details, he added elements such as dark side markings blended with “Kabuki makeup” and theatrical designs.
Considering international audiences, he also incorporated elements of the clown figure and death icons representing the end, in addition to features drawn from Japanese esoteric Buddhism.
Moral Layers
In response to queries regarding the story’s occasionally morally instructive tone, the director clarified that while certain elements were inspired by traditional legends and “Japanese mythology” as creative inspiration, he never intended to approach them as sacred texts or as a worldview for this world.
The franchise inherently has its unique customs and ideology through the heroic order, and he aimed to avoid this episode to prefer any specific sense of value.
When writing the plot, he founded his storytelling on a well-known hero’s journey model. He decided to focus particularly on the ancient “animism” that has existed throughout Japan since antiquity, and aimed to examine the commonalities and global relevance found in mythologies and worldviews around the globe.
Building on that basis, as opposed to anchoring the narrative in a particular religion such as a faith, his objective was to create something ideally matched for the galactic world; something that captures the timeless and ancient principles located at the crossroads of numerous societies and mankind’s story.
In the texts that feature in the short, he drew upon overlapping ideas from inspirations such as ancient scriptures, Japanese mythology, the natural philosophy, the inner temptations, and the classic vices. The dialogue was intentionally written from a highly elevated, near-legendary viewpoint, observing a individual person from a universal standpoint, so the lines would inherently convey her psychological journey.
Potential Sequels
When asked about the potential for a sequel, the creator explained that he does have a general concept should the adventure were to continue. It wouldn’t revolve around the main character regaining her sight, but more about exploring the difference between the character, who exists through perceiving and resonating with the world through her spirit under a {unique set of rules|
